Our Mission
Be able to assist students’ in their development of skill sets for successful transition to the Hospitality/Tourism destination;
To encourage high school curriculum standardization, and to align this standardization to the skill sets required to compete an apprenticeship programme in their destination choice successfully;
To encourage participation in experiential education to assist with the ease and transitions to other institutions and the workplace;
To keep hospitality educators informed as to what was happening in the province with regard to education policy documents; network with different associations, with similar platforms…such as Co-op education; the Canadian Chef Educator Association; the Canadian Culinary Federation, and their respective branches within the province; Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, with regard to the new Qualification and Tradespersons Act; and the resources within the Job Connect community to assist young people towards apprenticeships under Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Programs.
The goal
Our main goal of the association is to promote professionals, cooks, chefs, bakers, meatcutters, service personnel, travel counselors, meeting planners and their programs, and students in secondary/post secondary schools in the province.
Span of membership
We have a potential membership of roughly 120 members; our membership base are in a state of transition and renewal. as with any Association, it is viability and effectiveness it is determined by the members it represents. Our colleagues participation in this association is advantageous to them, their school, the association, and to students enrolled in Technological Education, Hospitality/Tourism in the province.
Communication Method
We have revised our bi-annual newsletter; we are exploring ‘hotlinks’ with several of our sponsors on their web pages, to ensure the word is out there; and that collectively we could assist students with their transitions to the world of work through our networks. We have also developed our own web page now: www.sssheo.ca Input is always welcomed.
